The Nebraska Academy of Sciences (NAS), founded in 1880, is the oldest scientific society in Nebraska and a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing science, education, and public engagement across the state. As an affiliate of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), NAS fosters collaboration among scientists, educators, students, and the broader community to promote scientific inquiry and literacy.

NAS welcomes members from all backgrounds who share an interest in science, including professionals, educators, students, and citizens. Its activities include an Annual Spring Meeting, where members present research and exchange ideas, and the publication of the Transactions of the Nebraska Academy of Sciences (TNAS), a peer-reviewed journal that shares original scientific work.

Supporting science education is a central part of NAS’s mission. The Academy offers scholarships, small grants, and awards that support students, teachers, and community-based science initiatives across Nebraska.

NAS extends its impact through public outreach, including field trips, workshops, and events that make science accessible and relevant. With its headquarters in Lincoln and a strong network of academic and public partners, NAS continues to play a leading role in supporting science, inspiring future scientists, and strengthening the connection between science and society in Nebraska.
